Assignment 2: Audio Portrait

For your audio portrait, you'll interview someone (could be a classmate via Skype, a family member in your house, a roommate, anyone really!) to tell a story using audio, music, and sound effects. You'll record using your phone, an audio recorder you might have at home, or recording on your phone or computer. We'll get to that next week.

In the meantime, this week your task is to find your subject and your story and post your plan in a new entry on your blog. Since we are in a remarkable time, feel free to explore what is happening in the world right now through one person's perspective. (For example, how does your sibling find comfort in difficult times? Have your sibling walk us through a specific story of a tough time and something they did that made them feel better.) Here are some topic ideas if you are interested in tackling Covid:

• Coping in the time of Covid
• How do you practice self-care in a time like this?
• A funny moment in the midst of transitioning to social distancing.
• Life before and after social distancing.
• What brings someone comfort in difficult times?
• Interview someone who has been through a difficult time and the lessons they learned from it.

Of course, if you are sick of all Covid, all the time, you can also focus on a story about something else entirely. Just make sure your story has a beginning, middle, and end. For example, ask one of your parents to recount the day they met. There could be a fun story there! If you need inspiration, here are some good open-ended questions to ask your interviewee in order to find a good story. Work to hone in on a specific event that hints at larger themes.
