Podcasts

As you are finishing up your audio portraits, I thought I'd share some of my favorite podcasts. Perhaps they will inspire some sound design elements for your own projects—or at least give you something to listen to as our days of quarantine continue. In the comments, I'd love to hear some of your favorites too!

• Invisiblia: A show about the invisible forces that shape our world that does a lot of interesting work with sound. Their latest episode, for example, is all about...sound!
• Heavyweight. The host Jonathan Goldstein works with people to try to solve mysteries from their past and lift the burden on events that have been weighing on them. He can take a little getting used to but he's also a master storyteller. For example, in this episode I found myself wondering why I was laughing at such a heavy topic and then later wondering why I was crying. 
• The Shadows: A fictional podcast that feels like a strange audio documentary. It's hard to put a pin in what this is but it has some of the most wild sound design out there. 
• Radiolab: An OG of the podcast movement. We listened to a clip about whale carcasses in a previous class. Radiolab presents science stories with fascinating experiments in sound. For example, in this episode about sound. 
• White Lies: A fascinating show about an unsolved murder and the legacy of racism.
• The Daily: The NYT daily podcast is great for keeping up with the craziness of the world around us. It's more journalism than storytelling, but very well done.
• Still Processing: One more really good one from the NYT focusing on culture and lots of good discussions on films.
